The Baileigh MWDC-550H is the 460V version of Baileigh's 5 HP wet dust collector, drawing 4.5A on a recommended 10A breaker. It exists for one reason: some dust should never be collected dry. Aluminum, titanium, and other reactive metal fines are combustible when suspended, and abrasive finishing supplies both the fines and the heat. Drawing that dust into a water bath cools it on contact, wets the particles so they cannot stay airborne, and keeps a combustible accumulation from building up in a filter bank.

Wet collection is also the answer for dust that defeats dry filters. Sticky residue and sub-micron particulate from fine polishing blind a cartridge quickly and cost airflow as they load. There are no filters in this collector to clog or replace, so airflow stays where it started. Shops working through an NFPA 660 dust hazard analysis will generally find wet collection is what the analysis calls for on reactive materials.

Performance is 3,100 CFM at 15,151 FPM through a 5" inlet, with 16.2 in. H2O of static pressure in reserve. Water level is visible through an EZ View sight window backed by hi and lo level sensors, and the collection drum runs from a 45L low limit to a 70L high limit with a drain valve at the base. A muffler keeps the unit at 75 dB measured 5 ft from the impeller, and casters plus an access handle make it straightforward to move for servicing.

For 230V three phase service, order the MWDC-550. On steel, stainless, and cast iron where reactivity is not a concern, the dry MDC-550H moves 3,583 CFM on the same 460V supply at a lower price.

Machinery too large for parcel shipment (palletized or crated) is only returnable if there is a material defect that cannot be resolved by replacing components.
