The Baileigh MWDC-550 is a 5 HP wet dust collector for shops grinding and polishing reactive metals. Aluminum, titanium, magnesium, and similar materials produce dust that is combustible in the right concentration, and heat from the abrasive is an ignition source sitting right at the collection inlet. A dry cartridge collector accumulates that dust in a filter bank. This one pulls it into water instead, where particles are cooled, wetted, and rendered far less reactive. Improvising with a shop vac and water is not an equivalent: mixing reactive metal fines with water in an uncontrolled way can generate hydrogen gas.

Wet collection also handles the dust that clogs dry filters fastest. Sticky residue and sub-micron particulate from fine polishing pass through a water bath without blinding a filter element, so there are no filter cartridges to replace and no gradual airflow loss as they load up. Where an NFPA 660 dust hazard analysis flags a combustible dust risk, this is the collector type that analysis usually points to.

The unit moves 3,100 CFM at 15,151 FPM through a single 5" inlet, with 16.2 in. H2O of static pressure available for longer duct runs. Water level sits behind an EZ View sight window with hi and lo indicators and level sensors. The collection drum holds 45L at the low limit and 70L at the high limit, drains through a valve at the base, and the whole cabinet rolls on casters with an access handle. A muffler holds noise to 75 dB at 5 ft, which is 10 dB quieter than the dry unit.

Wired for 230V three phase power, drawing 9A on a recommended 20A breaker. The MWDC-550H covers 460V service. If the shop only runs steel, stainless, and cast iron, the dry MDC-550 delivers higher volume at 3,583 CFM and costs less to buy.

Because items are your responsibility until they reach us, we recommend that you send the parcel using a delivery service that insures you of the value of the goods. Return shipping is at the customer's cost. At Beaver Industrial Supply’s discretion, delivery charges can be refunded if the goods are defective.

Machinery too large for parcel shipment (palletized or crated) is only returnable if there is a material defect that cannot be resolved by replacing components.
