Details
The Mafell Arunda 120N Midi Dovetail Joint Milling Template System provides structural timber framers and carpenters with a precision jig system for producing high-strength wood-to-wood dovetail connections. Designed for timber widths from 120 mm to 200 mm (4-3/4 in. to 7-7/8 in.) and timber heights from 90 mm to 300 mm (3-1/2 in. to 11-13/16 in.), this system replaces traditional steel connectors with self-tightening, drop-in timber joints engineered for heavy structural loads.
Operating with a compatible heavy-duty router such as the Mafell LO 65 Ec, the Arunda system utilizes a male and female template pair to rout matching mortise and tenon profiles directly into structural beams. The self-locking geometry allows upper joists and rafters to slide smoothly into place from above, drawing the connection tightly together without requiring external hardware or temporary bracing. Identical stop measurements on both templates ensure consistent reference alignment across multiple cuts, significantly reducing layout time on large timber framing projects.
The Midi package configuration equips woodworkers with the complete essential tooling setup needed to begin cutting 120N dovetail joints immediately, including matching templates, cutter head, reversible carbide blades, positioning gauge, guide ring, and a wooden transport case.
Features & Benefits
- Precision-Engineered Dovetail System: Creates high-capacity wood-to-wood structural joints without requiring metal fasteners or exposed connectors.
- Self-Tightening Joint Geometry: Downward wedge action pulls mating timbers tight upon installation for superior joint stiffness and clean visual fit.
- Identical Reference Positioning: Mortise and tenon templates feature matched stop locations, eliminating manual calculations and reducing alignment setup time.
- Angled Milling Versatility: Supports straight and angled timber connections up to 50 degrees for flexible roof rafter and diagonal bracing designs.
- Reversible Knife Cutter Head: Included router cutter head uses replaceable carbide blades to deliver clean cuts and maintain precise joint tolerances.
- Wooden Storage Case: Protects templates and precision accessories during jobsite transport and keeps components organized.

When selecting an Arunda system, choose the 120N for large structural timber applications spanning 120 mm to 200 mm (4-3/4 in. to 7-7/8 in.) in width with a 37 mm joint depth. For medium timber widths of 80 mm to 140 mm, select the Arunda 80N; for narrow timbers of 45 mm to 80 mm, select the 50N; or choose the Arunda 60-1B for applications requiring a shallower 21 mm joint depth.
